Promotion from Business Strategist/Developer/ Research Intern to Business associate.
I have worked as a Business Associate in Skobe – where my responsibilities included Building/designing strategies for the company – to gain market recognition and prominent position, executing roadmap, hiring interns, leading the content writing team. I did each and every possible function to gain a great learning experience.
This journey in Skobe began as an intern and then finally becoming the core member of the team. I worked there for 6 months and it was a great opportunity for me. This is very unique for an intern as the team is showing so much faith and trust is something which I can never forget. Leading team of students which included first years as well as post-grads was also something quite valuable.
What are the top learnings, skills and values that you acquired here?
Leadership, Adaptability, Flexibility, Teamwork, Strategic Thinking, Problem-solving, Communication and every possible soft skill which are really very important. I used to lead a team where the students varied from first-years to MBA’s which taught me that it is not the figures in ur age that works but the figures in your experience or opportunities.
In hard skills, I can mention about graphic designing, social media marketing and operating several social media platforms. Also, I have an inclination towards new tools so I am learning Tableau for the same. I am a learning enthusiast and try to make the most of it during the lockdown.
Do you feel this experience is a stepping stone towards success in life? Illustrate how the experience gained will help you going forward in your career.
The role of Business Associate surely filled me with gratitude and confidence because being an intern who grabbed this opportunity in one of the internship fairs of college – I didn’t expect that something big can happen through this.
I have achieved the experience of leading a team, being a motivator to people working under me, building strategic thinking which is my career prospect, creating connections for life and being confident about myself- so it is all a win-win experience for me when I really gained a lot in my experience as well as personality. It is quite important to understand that experiences should not limit to resume but it should add skills and confidence so that one can achieve his/her goals.
Learning opportunities are never small or big, I have worked in a Startup and it gives you whatever you want but you should know the skill of extracting the same. I have conducted several interviews for Skobe. These interviews were conducted with the artist and the most significant one is with India’s first magic duo “Arun – Varun”.
What is your advice to those, who are aspiring the same or a similar internship?
I think one of the most important things which should be kept in mind when working in a startup is “Evaluate the idea – and when you are confident of joining the same believe in the Idea.” It takes a lot to conceive an idea and execute the same. Journey in a startup is full of ups and downs so one should not fall for downs. So it is quite mandated that you become a pillar to the same.
Confidence in oneself is very important to establish yourself in a more stable and flexible manner. Your confidence builds the confidence of your working ecosystem.
How can we (Friends, Family, YI Fraternity) encourage young students such as yourself to involve themselves in different opportunities?
Support from your environment is significant. I have been always supported by my family and fraternity and this builds me to a great extent. This support can be in the form of guidance, balancing you in tough times, showing faith in you and even silence sometimes helps a lot. So support is very significant.
